La Romana and Bayahibe

La Romana sits on the south coast of the Dominican Republic, about two hours by road from Punta Cana airport and forty minutes from La Romana's own airport. It is the quieter half of the country's all-inclusive coast: fewer resorts, smaller ones, and a calmer sea than the Atlantic side.

Bayahibe, a few minutes further east, is the village the boats leave from for Saona and Catalina islands. Most of the resorts here are within a short drive of it.

We have slept in one resort on this coast so far — Sunscape Dominicus La Romana, in October 2025 — and its review is below. We do not score a resort we have not slept in, so this page will grow after the October trip rather than fill itself with places we have only read about.
